Job Summary and Qualifications

What You Will Do in This Role:

  • The role of the OR Tech II is to assist the OR team in the care of patients, equipment and supplies.
  • The OR Tech II in 701 Surgery provides care for birth to pediatric, pediatric/child patients between 1 to 11 years of age; adolescent patients between 12 to 17 years of age; adult patients between 18 to 64 years; and geriatric patients 65 years and older.
  • The surgical technologist in the first scrub role handles the instruments, supplies and equipment necessary during the surgical procedure.
  • The OR Tech II understands the procedure being performed and anticipates the needs of the surgeon.
  • The OR Tech II has the necessary knowledge and ability to ensure quality patient care during the operative procedure and is constantly on vigil for maintenance of the sterile field.
  • When the OR Tech II is in the second scrub role they assist the surgeon and/or surgical assistant during the operative procedure by carrying out tasks including sponging, suctioning, cutting suture, holding retractors and manipulating the endoscopic camera.
  • This role is distinct from that of the first scrub and surgical first assistant.

What Qualifications You Will Need:

  • Graduate of an accredited school of Certified Operating Room Technicians (CORT)
  • Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) from National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) preferred.
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) from American Heart Association or American Red Cross required upon hire
  • In addition to meeting the requirements of an OR Tech I position, must also be competent to perform as first scrub in three of the four following specialty areas: Robotic, Total Joints, Neuro/Spine and Vascular Surgery
