Number of OR’s: 5
Service Lines: Burn, Oral Maxillofacial Surgery, Adult dental, pulmonary, and GI.
Hours of operation: OR 7:30 am - 5:00 pm block schedule
This is a full time, 40 hours/week position (7-530x4 days per week, 1-2 late shifts per week). No nights, no weekends, No UNC recognized holidays.
For experienced Surgical Technologists with at least 1 year or more: This position qualifies for our UNC Medical Center Operating Room Incentive Program, which includes up to a $10,000 commitment incentive. In addition, this position is also eligible for up to $10,000 in relocation assistance (based on location) and our employee referral program. Summary:
The Surgical Technologist II works under the supervision of a surgeon and registered nurse to facilitate the safe and effective conduct of invasive surgical procedures, ensuring that the operating room environment is safe, that equipment functions properly, and that the operative procedure is conducted under conditions that maximize patient safety. Surgical technologists possess expertise in the theory and application of sterile and aseptic technique and combine the knowledge of human anatomy, surgical procedures, and implementation tools and technologies to facilitate a physician's performance of invasive therapeutic and diagnostic procedures. Performs surgical scrub duties across multiple services.
Responsibilities:
Education Requirements:
● High School Diploma or GED
Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology or Nursing Program; or Graduate of a Military Training Program in Surgical Technology; or Formal education/training may be substituted for individuals with 5+ years of prior experience as a surgical tech.
Licensure/Certification Requirements:
● Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider certification
Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) through The National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting or Tech in Surgery (TS-C) through The National Center of Competency Testing.
Professional Experience Requirements:
● 3+ years.
Knowledge/Skills/and Abilities Requirements:
● Successful completion of service specific portion of the UNC Health Surgical Technologist competencies.
● Strong communication skills/customer service relations.
● Excellent organizational/priority setting skill.
● Ability to function effectively as a mentor & team player.
● On-call (May be a requirement depending on the position).
