Qualifications

• Completion of Health First’s On-The-Job Training Program for Surgical Technician.
• Graduate of a Surgical Technologist program (Military, Community College, or School for Surgical Technology).
• One year of work experience as a surgical tech or surgical assistant.
• Must hold American Heart Association BLS Healthcare Provider card prior to start date and maintain.
• Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
• Ability to perform basic math.
• Reliable transportation with ability to respond from location within 30 minutes of assigned facility when on call.
• Flexible and adaptable with daily schedule and assigned tasks.
• Ability to respond appropriately to stressful or life-threatening situations.
• Detail-oriented with ability for continuous concentration on an activity.

Responsibilities

• Prepares operating rooms with instruments, sutures, supplies, and equipment; opens sterile supplies and sets up for operations.
• Creates, maintains, and terminates sterile field for surgical procedures.
• Handles and cares for all instruments and equipment; reports faulty items per policy.
• Assists with precepting new technical personnel.
• Attends in-services and mandatory meetings.
• Cooperates with the nurse in the individualized plan of care for each patient.
• Anticipates needs of surgeon and assistants; passes instruments, sutures, sponges, supplies.
• Performs duties in accordance with procedures and skills check list.

Primary Accountabilities

• Performs a variety of duties in an operating room observing proper techniques to include preparing rooms with appropriate instruments, sutures, supplies, and equipment; open sterile supplies and arrange sterile setups for operations.
• Creates, maintains, and terminates sterile field for surgical procedures.
• Properly handles and cares for all instruments and equipment. Checks materials and equipment for proper functioning and adequacy; reports faulty equipment and instruments per policy.
• Assists with precepting new technical personnel.
• Attends in-services and mandatory meetings.
• Cooperates with the nurse in the individualized plan of care for each patient.
• Anticipates needs of surgeon and surgical assistants in the operating room, passing instruments, sutures, sponges, and supplies needed in an operative procedure.
• Demonstrates an ability to perform all duties required of a Surgical Technologist in accordance with established procedures and completion of skills check list.

Minimum Qualifications

• Education:
• Completion of Health First’s On-The-Job Training Program for Surgical Technician,
• OR graduate of a program for Surgical Technologist (Military, Community College, or
• School for Surgical Technology),
• OR one year of work experience as a surgical tech or surgical assistant
• Licensure: None
• Certification: Must hold American Heart Association BLS Healthcare Provider Completion Card prior to start date and maintain.

Physical Requirements – Medium

• Physically agile; may require walking, standing running, bending, stooping, kneeling, climbing or crouching frequently
• Medium work that may include lifting or moving objects up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, with or without assistance
• May require moving self in different positions to accomplish tasks in various environments including tight and confined spaces, including reaching out and above shoulders or over head
• May lift, turn, pull, push, or ambulate people and/or equipment with or without assistance up to 90% of the assigned shift
• May be exposed to inside and outside environments with varied temperatures, air quality, lighting and/or low to loud noise
• May require working with biohazards such as blood/body fluids and airborne particles following OSHA and CDC Guidelines

• Visual acuity and hand-eye coordination to perform tasks
• Workspace may vary from open to confined; on site or remote
