Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Graduate of Certified Surgical Technologist program or equivalent.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) is required.
• Must have advanced competencies in a minimum of 3 specialties.

Responsibilities

• Anticipate needs of the surgical team and obtain instrumentation and supplies for procedures.
• Pass instruments to the surgeon and assistant during surgery.
• Assist with terminal cleaning of the room and turnover for the next case.
• Prepare back table and instruments for terminal cleaning and sterilization as the circulator prepares patient to leave the room.
• Place instruments back in the tray for transport to SPD.
• Adhere to policy (count policy, universal protocol, medication labeling).
• Work with students and less experienced staff on proper instrument passing and retrieval during procedures.
