Overview

This position is sign-on bonus eligible! Experienced Full-Time Surgical Technologists are eligible for a sign-on bonus with a one-year commitment. New Graduate and Part-Time Surgical Technologists are also eligible for a sign-on bonus with a one-year commitment.

Job Summary

Applies advanced surgical technology skills to assist in providing patient care in the surgical suite while maintaining a safe work environment and performing all related job responsibilities. Ensures quality patient care during the operative procedure and maintains vigilance for the sterile field.

Essential Functions
  • Possesses thorough knowledge of aseptic technique and its application.
  • Assists in obtaining and organizing supplies and instruments before, during, and after surgical procedures.
  • Assists the Registered Nurse circulator in patient preparation, assembly of supplies, instruments, equipment, and proper disposition of specimens; aids in room turnover.
  • Performs duties according to department policies and procedures.
  • Monitors surgical supplies for sterility prior to use, ensures judicious use, and documents charges accurately.
  • Monitors and documents sterilization activities.
  • Attends in-services and staff meetings; stays informed on current department issues and participates in Performance Improvement processes.
  • Participates in educational opportunities to enhance competency and meet personal goals.
  • Assists in developing policies, procedures, and standards.
  • May serve as a preceptor and clinical resource to others.
  • Supports maintenance and completion of individual clinical projects as needed.
Physical Requirements

Works with occasional intermittent noise and exposure to dust, fumes, and chemicals. Must communicate effectively in writing and speech. Physical effort includes walking, stretching, bending, climbing stairs, twisting, and squatting or kneeling. May stand for extended periods. Requires frequent use of side vision, lifting, pushing, and pulling, supporting up to 35 pounds. Uses hands for gripping, speed, and precision during procedures. Visual and auditory acuity up to 20 feet, with depth perception and color discrimination required. Must work long or irregular hours, rotating shifts, on hard surfaces, near moving equipment, and in environments with temperature and humidity variations, and exposure to Blood Borne Pathogens.

Education, Experience, and Certifications

High School Diploma or GED required. Current Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers required. Graduate of an accredited surgical technology program or successful military training as Surgical Technologist or Operating Room Specialist required. From 5/26/2019, at least 2 years of operating room experience in a surgical technologist role required. Certification is preferred. Meets qualifications for ST II in the Surgical Tech Ladder.
