Job Description :

GENERAL OVERVIEW:

Performs direct and indirect technical tasks for patients before, during, and after surgical interventions.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Assists in setting up the surgical operating suite with appropriate instruments and supplies. (20%)
  2. Utilizes proper aseptic techniques and practices standard precautions. Follows policy for medication and specimen handling. (20%)
  3. Assists with preparing, positioning, and draping patients and participates in the surgical pause to ensure correct patient and surgical site. (20%)
  4. Understands, anticipates, and adapts to surgeon preferences and patient care variables, contributing to updating surgeon preference materials. (20%)
  5. Performs sponge, needle, and instrument counts. (10%)
  6. Cares for and utilizes resources to promote a cost-effective and efficient environment for patients. (10%)
  7. Performs other duties as assigned or required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum

  • One-year certificate from a college or technical school; or three to six months related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Surgical Technologist (ST) hired after 12/29/2020 must:
    • Successfully complete a Surgical Technologist program sponsored by an entity holding nationally recognized accreditation and maintain certification from an accredited certification program (including military programs). Certification must be obtained within 6 months of completing the program.
    • Be employed to practice surgical technology by the healthcare facility on or before December 29, 2020.
    • Have been employed to practice surgical technology as the primary function in another healthcare facility within two years before December 29, 2020.
  • CPR certification – American Heart Association

Preferred

  • 1-3 years of Surgical Technologist experience.
