Seeking Surgical Technologist for the Medical Campus in Chapel Hill. Although we prefer one year of experience, we welcome new graduates to apply! The schedule for this position will be Monday through Friday, 7a-7:30p, with call and holidays (36 hours/week). Summary

The Surgical Technologist I works under the supervision of a surgeon and registered nurse to facilitate safe and effective invasive surgical procedures. Responsibilities include ensuring a safe operating room environment, proper equipment functioning, and maximizing patient safety through sterile and aseptic techniques, knowledge of human anatomy, and surgical procedures. The role involves performing duties of a surgical scrub at the entity they serve.

Responsibilities
  1. Performs technical duties in all operating room specialty service areas, adhering to accepted standards.
  2. Maintains, assembles, handles, and sterilizes specialty instrumentation.
  3. Follows aseptic technique; identifies contamination or breaches and implements corrective actions.
  4. Performs surgical counts, reports discrepancies per policies.
  5. Labels drugs and solutions; monitors usage quantities.
  6. Prepares and handles surgical specimens appropriately.
  7. Participates in instrument and supply setup for procedures.
  8. Assists surgeons, understanding patient anatomy and abnormalities.
  9. Plans case and instrument needs.
  10. Modifies scrubbing procedures based on case specifics and responds to emergencies.
  11. Manages inventory and supplies under leadership guidance.
  12. Identifies and reports defective instruments and equipment.
  13. Assists RN during intraoperative phases.
  14. Operates and troubleshoots complex OR equipment.
  15. Serves as a mentor and preceptor for trainees as needed.
Other Information

Education: High School Diploma or GED

Licensure/Certification: BLS for Healthcare Providers; graduation from an accredited Surgical Technology or Nursing Program, military training, or equivalent experience.

Experience: 0-3 years
