Job summary

Sentara Health is seeking a Surgical Technologist for Sentara Norfolk General Hospital's Level I Operating Room in Norfolk, VA. This role offers a sign-on bonus up to $15,000 for qualified candidates and a full-time shift schedule (First/Second/Mid shifts, 11a-7p weekdays).

The Technologist prepares the OR, passes instruments, maintains sterility, and supports the surgical team to ensure patient safety and smooth procedures. Virginia licensure and NBSTSA certification are required.

Qualifications

• Valid Virginia Surgical Technologist license is required.
• NBSTSA/NCCA Surgical Technologist Certification required.
• BLS certification required.

Responsibilities

• Prepare the operating room with instruments and equipment.
• Pass instruments to the surgeon and maintain sterile field.
• Assist in dressing applications and patient transfers to recovery.
• Adhere to infection control protocols and keep the environment clean and sterile.
• Collaborate with the surgical team to ensure efficient procedures.

Job Description

The Surgical Technologist ensures that the operating room is properly prepared with the necessary instruments and equipment and assists the surgical team throughout the procedure by passing instruments, maintaining the sterile field, and anticipating the needs of the surgeon. The role involves maintaining patient safety and ensuring that the surgical environment is organized, clean, and sterile. The Surgical Technologist assists in applying dressings, securing surgical drapes and transferring patients to recovery areas. Adheres to infection control protocols and sterile techniques to prevent contamination and ensure patient safety. Works closely with the surgical team to ensure smooth and effective procedures.

Surgical Technologist Licensure required in the state of practice.

Certification / Licensure

• Virginia Surgical Technologist License REQUIRED
• NBSTSA/NCCA Surgical Technologist Certification REQUIRED
• Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification REQUIRED

Experience

• Prior Surgical Technologist experience PREFERRED

Compensation

We provide market-competitive compensation packages, inclusive of base pay, incentives, and benefits. The base pay range for full-time employment is $30.26 - $44.75 hourly. Additional compensation may be available for this role, such as shift differentials, on-call pay, overtime, shift premiums, extra-shift incentives, or bonus opportunities. Compensation within the range may vary based on qualifications, experience, location, market conditions, and business needs.
