Responsibilities include preparing the operating room and selecting surgical instruments in collaboration with the circulating nurse, counting needles, sponges, and instruments, ensuring proper labeling of medications and safe fluid temperatures, and maintaining instrumentation cleanliness. The role involves preoperative patient preparation, handing instruments to the surgeon, assisting with gowning and gloving, and performing related patient care tasks such as specimen delivery, room turnover, patient transport, and emergency cart checks. Additionally, the technologist prepares supplies for sterilization, assesses environmental needs, orients new staff on departmental policies, and performs other duties as assigned.
