Signature Healthcare’s Brockton Hospital is hiring for a Surgical Technician, Full-Time Flex Varied Shift, Operating Room (OR) in Brockton, MA.

Operating Room (OR) Surgical Technician Roles and Responsibilities:
- Exercise surgical aseptic technique in preparation for and during surgery, adhering to all regulatory requirements (e.g., Personnel Protective Equipment use).
- Assist with preparation of the Operating Room for specific surgical procedures, including setting up surgical suite with equipment, instruments, and supplies. This involves moving large machines, lifting instrument trays (weighing 25-30 lbs.), and pushing carts.
- Assist with preservation and labeling of operative specimens for laboratory analysis.
- Assist with care, cleaning, storage, and inventory of supplies and equipment.
- Maintain an orderly and clean work area and ensure appropriate stock levels.
- Assist with transporting preoperative patients to the Operating Room, requiring the ability to push stretchers.
- Assist with sterilization of instruments and equipment weighing 25-30 lbs. and handling large equipment.
- Assist with patient positioning, skin preparation, and draping, which requires lifting up to 35 lbs.
- Anticipate surgeon’s needs and place appropriate instruments, sponges, sutures, and supplies at the surgical field.
- Control the location of contaminated instruments and supplies to prevent infection spread.
- Perform surgical scrubs and shaves for preoperative patients.
- Label medications transferred to the sterile field and deliver medications to the surgeon.
- Strive to improve room turnovers and anticipate needs for subsequent cases.
- Care for OR equipment, ensure proper placement, and assist in troubleshooting malfunctioning equipment.
- Maintain and protect instrumentation, identify repairs needed, and remove malfunctioning equipment from service.
- Perform accurate instrument, sponge, and needle counts.
- Contribute to updating preference cards and facilitate communication between surgeons and resources.
- Prepare for OR cases by assembling supplies and following up on additional needs independently.
- Research procedures, equipment, and policies to stay current, and sign off on educational modules and policy updates.
- Confirm daily sterilizer Quality Assurance in the absence of the equipment technician.
- Assist other staff when not involved in a case.
- Dispose of sharps properly before case counts leave the room.
- Show respect and professionalism towards patients, families, visitors, and colleagues.
- Respect cultural diversity and communicate effectively with internal and external customers, utilizing interpreters when needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

- High school diploma or equivalent required. Completion of an approved Surgical Technologist program is required.
- Prefer at least 1-year experience, but beginning practitioners will be considered. On-call responsibility with a 30-minute response time. New graduates must obtain certification within 12 months of graduation.
- Current BLS certification and Surgical Technologist Certification are required.
