Job description

Job Summary: Geisinger is proud to offer a Surgical Technologist position with a $7,500 hiring incentive for eligible candidates, a starting salary of $24.75 with increased rates for experienced individuals, up to $5/hr shift differential for evening, night, and weekend shifts, and up to $40,000 in financial support to become a nurse.

Job Duties:

  • Assist surgeons during procedures related to patient care across all ages.
  • Coordinate treatments with other disciplines.
  • Provide basic patient assistance and connect patients to clinical equipment as needed.
  • Practice aseptic techniques, including scrubbing, gowning, gloving, draping, and setting up instruments.
  • Participate in surgical time and out, and OR briefings according to protocol.
  • Verify surgical site with the team before incision.
  • Maintain accurate counts of supplies and verify with the circulating nurse at the end of procedures.
  • Prepare and verify specimens collected during surgery.
  • Dispose of linens, needles, and sharps properly.
  • Assist with wound assessment and dressing changes.
  • Maintain universal precautions and initiate emergency procedures when necessary.
  • Participate in patient admission, discharge, billing, and on-call rotations.
  • Serve as a preceptor for students and adhere to all policies and standards.
  • Perform quality control and additional duties such as specimen collection, patient transport, and post-mortem care.
  • Ensure medications and solutions are labeled under RN supervision.

Work Environment: Typically performed in a clinical setting, complying with all organizational policies and procedures. Additional competencies will be outlined during departmental orientation.
