UPMC South Surgery Center in Bethel Park is a 4 OR orthopedic surgery center, primarily performing orthopedic surgeries such as sports medicine procedures like ACL repairs, shoulder, hip, foot/ankle surgeries, etc.

As a Surgical Technologist, you will experience the satisfaction of making a real impact, working Monday to Friday with daylight hours, ensuring a healthy work-life balance with no overnights, weekends, or on-call shifts. The hours are 6:30am - 4pm. This position will work a minimum of 28 hours and a maximum of 36 hours per week.

Purpose:

The Surgical Technologist will assist and scrub into a wide range of orthopedic surgeries, including total shoulders. The scrub tech will be cross-trained into central sterile for cross-coverage abilities. Opportunities include side projects and assisting in maintaining inventory and daily operations of the small surgery center.

Responsibilities:

• Ensure all medications are labeled and handed to the surgeon according to established policies and procedures.
• Help prepare the operating room before surgery by setting up surgical instruments, equipment, sterile drapes, and solutions. Assemble both sterile and non-sterile equipment. Check and adjust equipment to ensure proper functioning.
• During surgery, pass instruments and supplies efficiently, hold retractors or instruments, cut sutures, sponge or suction the operative site under supervision, and help count sponges, needles, supplies, and instruments.
• Assist in preparing, caring for, and disposing of specimens for laboratory analysis and help apply dressings.
• Assist the surgical team with donning sterile gowns and gloves.
• Post-surgery, help transfer patients to the recovery room and clean and restock the operating room.
• Prepare patients for surgery by washing, shaving, and ensuring aseptic incision sites. May transport and position patients on the operating table and cover with sterile drapes.
• Maintain a safe environment through vigilance regarding safety hazards and aseptic techniques.
