This full‑time weekend day shift position requires Virginia licensure/certification and adherence to licensing standards.

Qualifications

• Three years of operating room scrubbing experience required.
• High school diploma required.
• Graduate of an approved Certified Surgical Assistant Program.
• Virginia Surgical Assistant License required.
• Certification as a Surgical First Assistant required within six months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Maintain sterile fields using aseptic technique.
• Plan equipment and supplies based on patient and physician needs.
• Assist the surgical team with case preparation, device setup, and room cleanup between cases.
• Demonstrate competency in assisting the surgeon within the scope of care.
• Promote cost containment while delivering quality patient care in the OR.
• Participate in on‑call assignments and be flexible to cover staffing as needed.
• Provide a safe peri‑operative environment and support the OR team.
• Pursue professional growth through continuing education and in‑service training.
• Adhere to hospital policies and support the hospital mission.

Job Summary

LewisGale Medical Center, part of HCA Healthcare, is seeking a certified Surgical Tech First Assistant to provide high‑quality surgical support in our operating rooms. The role involves maintaining sterile fields, managing surgical instruments, and ensuring patient safety throughout the peri‑operative process. The position requires full‑time work on weekends (day shift) and compliance with licensing and certification standards in Virginia.

Responsibilities

• Utilize principles of aseptic technique to create and maintain a sterile field.
• Plan and provide equipment and supplies based on patient and physician needs.
• Assist the surgical team with case preparation, device set‑up, and room cleanup between cases.
• Demonstrate competency in assisting the surgeon within the scope of care.
• Promote cost containment while delivering quality patient care in the operating room.
• Participate in on‑call assignments and demonstrate flexibility to cover staffing as needed.
• Perform other functions within Surgical Services to aid the department’s smooth operation.
• Provide a safe environment for the surgical patient during the peri‑operative experience.
• Serve as a professional member of the OR team.
• Pursue professional growth through continuing education and in‑service training.
• Adhere to hospital policies and procedures and support the hospital’s mission.

Qualifications

Required:

• Minimum of three years of operating room scrubbing experience.
• High school graduate.
• Graduate of an approved Certified Surgical Assistant Program.
• Virginia Surgical Assistant License.
• Certification as a Surgical First Assistant; certification required within six (6) months of hire.

Preferred:

• One year experience as a surgical assistant.

Hours: Full time weekends only (day shift).
