Mercy Hospital Washington in Washington, MO, is seeking a Surgical Technologist First Assist (STFA) or Certified Surgical First Assistant (CSFA) to join our Operating Room team. This full‑time role provides advanced intraoperative support, enabling safer operations and positive patient outcomes in a high‑performing perioperative setting.

The STFA collaborates with surgeons, nurses, and anesthesia staff to maintain sterile technique and optimize surgical efficiency.

Qualifications

• Experience as Surgical Technologist First Assist in the OR.
• Certification as CSFA required or eligible.
• Ability to assist surgeons with exposure, hemostasis and wound closure.

Responsibilities

• Provide advanced intraoperative support to surgeons.
• Assist with exposure, hemostasis, closure and tissue handling.

Under the supervision of the surgeon, The Surgical Tech First Assist (ST-FA) is a role whichprovidesadditionalassistance to the surgeon in the Operating Room over and above that normally provided. As defined by the American College of Surgeons (ACS), surgical assistants provide aid in exposure,hemostasis, closure, and other interoperative technical functions that help the surgeon carry out a safer operation withoptimalresults for the patient.In addition, the ST-FA may perform in the role of the Surgical Technologist in the Operating Room as needed. Coordinates the care of the surgical patient with other team members. Maintains patient rights and confidentiality. Performs duties and responsibilities in a manner consistent with our mission, values, and guiding principles.
