Responsibilities

• Provide patient care before, during, and after surgery to ensure safe and efficient procedures.
• Report changes in patient condition promptly to the nurse.
• Label and handle patient specimens appropriately.
• Perform Surgical Technologist skills within the scope of practice.
• Maintain a clean, safe, clutter-free environment.
• Respond to delegated tasks from licensed nurses; do not perform non-delegated skills.
• Recognize and respond to emergency situations.
• Follow safe infection control practices.
• Assist nurses and physicians with procedures.
• Participate in preceptor activities and educational opportunities.
• Demonstrate aseptic techniques and operate specialized OR equipment.
• Prepare the OR table, scrub, and assist with surgeries, providing instruments and supplies.
• Understand surgical procedures across multiple specialties.

Qualifications

Minimum Education: Two years of college and/or completion of a surgical assisting specialty course; pass pre-hire employment tests.

Minimum Work Experience: 2-4 years in general or specialty areas, with orthopedic/neuro experience required; surgical experience and as a Surgical Technologist preferred.

Licenses: Certified First Assistant; certification in an approved Surgical Assistant program (CFA, SCS, CRNFA, or PA-C) within 12 months of employment.
