Job summary

BayCare Health System is looking for a Surgical First Assistant to assist surgeons during surgeries at St Josephs South in South Bend, Indiana. This full-time position requires at least 3 years of surgical tech experience and certification. Responsibilities include assisting with patient positioning, communication with the surgical team, and managing surgical equipment. Qualifications

• At least 3 years’ experience as a Surgical Tech.
• 1-year Surgical First Assistant experience.
• Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) with the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
• Certified Surgical First Assist (CSFA) Certification.

Responsibilities

Job description

Position Description

• Responsible for assisting the surgeon during surgery and plays a vital role in the operating room during surgeries. Communicates the surgeon’s preferences and specific patient needs to surgical team. Assists in positioning, prepping and draping of patients for surgical procedures. Provides retraction of tissues and organs for optimal visualization with regard to the surgical site. Assists with selecting equipment, holding incisions open, controlling bleeding, closing incisions and performing other technical duties.

Shift Hours: 6:30am - 7:00pm

Weekend Work: Occasional

On Call: Yes

Requirements

• Required Experience: At least 3 years’ experience as a Surgical Tech and 1-year Surgical First Assistant experience.
• Required Education: High School or Equivalent and Surgical Technology First Assist Certificate
• Required License/Certification: Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) with the American Heart Association or American Red Cross and Certified Surgical First Assist (CSFA) Certification.
