The Surg Tech Extern will commit to a PRN schedule working 2 shifts every 6 weeks. Hours vary and may include day and night shifts, weekends and holidays during the Externship.

Requirements
  • Orientation on Day 1 (6/16/2025) is mandatory
  • Valid BLS/CPR certification through the externship
  • Enrollment in an accredited Surg Tech program and completed 1st two semesters, starting their 3rd semester or beyond.

Preferred Qualifications
Role Purpose

Assists mentors with surgical duties for operating room procedures under the supervision of a registered nurse and/or surgical technologist.

Responsibilities
  • Assist in turning over the operating room, ensuring supplies, instruments, and equipment are properly stored.
  • Prepare the operating room for surgery, review surgeon’s preference cards, gather supplies and equipment, ensure room cleanliness, and assist with opening sterile supplies under supervision.
  • Assist with surgical scrub duties and the collection, identification, and disposition of cultures and specimens under supervision.
  • Participate in educational activities related to the externship program.
  • This is a safety-sensitive position requiring constant alertness and safe work practices.
Minimum Requirements
Education
  • Enrolled in an accredited Surg Tech Program
  • High School Diploma or GED
Experience
  • No experience required

  • Associate's Degree
