GREAT OPPORTUNITY!!!!

The Surg Tech Extern will commit to a PRN schedule working 2 shifts every 6 weeks. Hours vary and may include day and night shifts, weekends, and holidays during the Externship.

  • Orientation on Day 1 (6/16/2025) is mandatory
  • Valid BLS/CPR certification through the externship
  • Enrollment in an accredited Surg Tech program and completed 1st two semesters, starting their 3rd semester or beyond.

Preferred Qualifications

Role Purpose

Assists mentors with surgical duties for operating room procedures under the supervision of a registered nurse and/or surgical technologist.

Responsibilities
  1. Assist in turning over the operating room, ensuring supplies, instruments, and equipment are returned to proper locations.
  2. Prepare the operating room for surgical patients, review preference cards, obtain necessary supplies and equipment, ensure cleanliness, and assist with opening sterile supplies under supervision.
  3. Assist with surgical scrub duties, and with the collection, identification, and disposition of cultures and specimens under supervision.
  4. Participate in educational activities related to the extern program, including unit-specific information.
  5. This is a safety-sensitive position; the ability to work in a constant state of alertness and safety is essential.
Minimum Requirements
Education
  • Enrolled in an accredited Surg Tech Program
  • High School Diploma or GED

Preferred Requirements
  • Associate's Degree in a related field
