UPMC Susquehanna has an opening for a Full-Time Weekend Option Surgical Technologist. This position involves Days with Rotation shifts and 12-hour shifts.

This position is eligible for a generous sign-on bonus:

  • $10,000 for 0-1 years of experience with a 2-year commitment
  • $12,000 for 1-2 years of experience with a 2-year commitment
  • $15,000 for 2+ years of experience with a 2-year commitment
  • $12,000 for 0-1 years of experience with a 3-year commitment
  • $17,000 for 1-2 years of experience with a 3-year commitment
  • $25,000 for 2+ years of experience with a 3-year commitment

Final candidates will be assigned a job title within the career ladder based on education, experience, and managerial discretion at the time of offer.

Purpose: Work under the supervision of a Clinician to facilitate safe and effective invasive surgical procedures. Coordinate instrumentation, equipment, and supplies to ensure proper use and availability for quality patient service. Perform advanced tasks in the operating room, assisting with complex surgical procedures across at least three specialties such as Cardiac Surgery, Neurosurgery, Thoracic Lung Transplant, Transplant (Liver/Kidney), or Trauma.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare the operating room, set up instruments, equipment, and supplies; assist during surgery by passing instruments, sutures, and sponges; ensure aseptic technique.
  • Assist with patient preparation, including washing, shaving, and positioning; help with sterile gowning and gloving.
  • During surgery, pass instruments, hold retractors, cut sutures, and assist with specimen handling.
  • Ensure proper medication labeling and handling; assist with patient transfer post-operation; maintain a safe environment.
  • Serve as a resource and preceptor for staff and students; support cost containment and process improvements.
  • Maintain knowledge of specific surgical specialties; oversee equipment and supplies maintenance and repair.

Qualifications include completion of a formal surgical technician program, at least 4 years of OR experience, and certification (CST or TSC). Must have current BLS/CPR certification. Must have accountability in at least one of the specified surgical specialties.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances: CPR required within 30 days of hire; CST or TSC certification required.
