Surgical Technologist - Duke GI-Endoscopy at Brier Creek (Commitment Bonus Eligible)

The Surgical Technologist at Duke GI-Endoscopy provides crucial support during endoscopic procedures by preparing medical supplies and maintaining sterile environments. This role involves direct and indirect patient care, instrument handling, and collaboration with the healthcare team to ensure safety and efficiency in procedural settings. Candidates are expected to advance their skills and take on teaching responsibilities as they gain experience.

JOB LOCATION: Duke GI-Endoscopy at Brier Creek - 10207 Cerny St – Raleigh, NC

$10,000 Commitment Bonus Eligible | Paid out in 4 equal installments over 24 months in 6-month increments. **Only new hires who have not worked for Duke University Health System in the past 12 months (at the time of offer) are eligible to receive the sign-on bonus.**

JOB SUMMARY: We are seeking a Surgical Technologist in our Duke GI – Endoscopy Center at Brier Creek located in Raleigh, NC to be an integral member of the healthcare team and provide direct and indirect care to patients.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Has basic knowledge of instrumentation. Prepare and set up medical supplies and equipment for diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures.
  2. Demonstrates correct and safe instrumentation passing and assists provider in a safe and accurate manner.
  3. Maintains technical skills for diagnostic and therapeutic procedures to include obtaining specimens, attaching vital sign equipment, and positioning the patient.
  4. Assist physician and nursing personnel during diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures to include, handling instruments and equipment, calling out equipment readings, and collecting and labeling specimens while maintaining infection control standards.
  5. Manually clean endoscopes and then perform the proper process to complete High Level Disinfection of these scopes.
  6. Assist with the teaching of newly hired technologists and student technologists.
  7. Assist nurse with transporting the patient into the procedure room and to recovery after the procedure.
  8. Anticipate the needs of the Endoscopist and the procedural nurse.
  9. Clean and dress stretchers in preparation for the next patient.
  10. Clean procedure rooms, including procedural tables, countertops, floor mats, and wall suction systems.

JOB ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology program or the successful completion of the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) certification exam.
  2. Level I- Entry level position for new graduates of Surgical Technology program or Surgical Technologists with 0 to 18 months experience.
  3. Level II- Requires 6 to 12 months of full-time equivalent Surgical Technology or relevant military experience.

JOB HOURS: The schedule for this position is day shifts, Monday-Friday, with no weekends or holidays.
