Job summary

Cayuga Health is seeking an OR Surgical Technologist for Cayuga Orthopedics in Ithaca, NY. This full-time, day-shift role supports an integrated care team in the main OR and clinic locations.

The CST will prepare the environment, stock rooms, assist surgeons, and comply with AORN guidelines and universal precautions. Onsite positions with a focus on patient safety and continuous education are offered.

Qualifications

• License: NBSTSA or NCCT certification, or LPN license.
• Minimum education: must be a graduate of an Accredited Surgical Technology program, and eligible for certification.

Responsibilities

• Maintains standards of care for the operative patient, adhering to AORN standards and recommendations.
• Prepares the patient environment by stocking rooms and cleaning equipment as assigned.
• Anticipates surgeon and anesthesia needs using preference cards, collecting and assembling necessary supplies, instruments, and equipment for procedures.
• Demonstrates knowledge of proper handling of supplies and equipment necessary for surgical procedures, and responds appropriately to changes in patient needs during operations.
• Assists with patient positioning, preparation, and follows AORN guidelines for surgical hand scrubs, surgical counts, and Time Out procedures.
• Identifies and mitigates potential and actual safety hazards, ensuring equipment is removed from the patient area and repaired as needed.
• Adheres to universal precautions and infection control techniques, organizes tasks to meet patient care and unit needs, stays flexible to changes, and remains accountable for continuing education and policy updates.
