Job summary

Novant Health's Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem, NC seeks a Surgical Technologist for the CVOR. You will work under the supervision of surgeons and RNs to facilitate cardiovascular and thoracic procedures.

Qualifications

• Must demonstrate customer service, communication, time management, and competency validation requirements.

Responsibilities

• Assist in cardiovascular and thoracic procedures under surgeon and RN supervision.
• Maintain safe OR environment, ensure equipment functions properly, maximize patient safety.
• Anticipate procedural needs and pass instruments efficiently during open-heart, vascular, and thoracic surgeries.
• Maintain strict aseptic technique and infection prevention standards.

What We Offer

• Schedule: 6:30A-5PM, Full time, 40 hours, four 10 hour shifts. M-F with some call and weekend call requirements (will be reviewed more upon interview).
• Department: Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR)
• Location: Forsyth Medical Center, Winston-Salem, North Carolina
• Requirements: Prior Surg Tech experience required for this position. Experience with vascular cases is strongly preferred for this opening.

What You'll Do

• The Surgical Technologist works under the supervision of a surgeon and registered nurse to facilitate the safe and effective conduct of cardiovascular and thoracic surgical procedures.
• Ensuring that the operating room environment is safe, that equipment functions properly, and that the operative procedure is conducted under conditions that maximize patient safety.
• Assist surgeons during open-heart, vascular, and thoracic surgeries by anticipating procedural needs and passing instruments efficiently.
• Maintain strict aseptic technique and adhere to infection prevention and patient safety standards.
• Maintain knowledge of evolving cardiovascular surgical techniques, technologies, and best practices.

What We're Looking For

• Education: High School Diploma or GED, required. Graduate of an accredited School of Surgical Technology program or Military Training Equivalent (68D – Operating Room Specialist). For incumbents who are not graduates of an accredited School of Surgical Technology or have certification please see additional skills required. Soley, online Surgical Tech program credits will not be accepted – intern program graduates must meet online program and skill/competency assessment requirements.
• Experience: Previous Surgical Technologist experience, preferred.
• Licensure/Certification: Current Surgical Tech Certification, preferred.
• Additional Skills (required): For incumbents who are not graduates of an accredited School of Surgical Technology or have certification the following additional requirements may apply: new graduates must obtain certification within 12months of hire. Ability to successfully complete generic and department-specific skill validation and competency testing. Demonstrate effective and appropriate customer service skills, verbal and nonverbal communication techniques, interpersonal relationship skills, and time management skills. Intern program graduates must meet online program and clinical skill/competency assessment requirements.
