Mary Washington Healthcare has excellent opportunities for surgical technologists to join its growing teams at Mary Washington Hospital, a Level II trauma center with 15 operating rooms including a cysto suite. The close-knit, highly skilled surgical team at Mary Washington Healthcare performs everything from thoracic, major ortho, cardiac, and GYN to minor outpatient procedures.

Job Summary:

Under the supervision of the Specialty Coordinator/Registered Nurse, this position assists nursing staff by communicating patient status changes and preparing the OR with necessary equipment.

Sign-on Bonus:

$10,000 Sign-on bonus for external applicants

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
  • Collaborates with the care team to develop the patient's care plan to achieve desired outcomes based on physician preference cards, assessments, diagnostic reports, and standards of care.
  • Communicates safe therapeutic care throughout the perioperative experience.
  • Maintains and cares for equipment and supplies. Prepares OR rooms with instruments, sutures, supplies, and equipment. Follows aseptic techniques.
  • Drapes patients and assists during procedures.
  • Assists in turnover of rooms between cases.
  • Provides input for updates to physician preference cards as requested.
  • Maintains a safe and organized environment.
  • Participates in infection control and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Demonstrates effective communication, customer service, and team skills.
  • Responsible for professional growth and development.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Clinical education/experience must meet one of the following:
  • Graduate from an approved program such as OR Technology, Surgical Scrub Tech, or Surgical Technology (6 months experience preferred).
  • Licensed Practical Nurse eligible in Virginia with one year OR experience.
  • Trained Scrub/Operating Room Tech with at least 7 years hospital OR experience.
  • AHA BLS Provider CPR required at hire.
  • Must become a Certified Surgical Technologist within 6 months of hire.
  • One year of OR cardiac experience or successful completion of internal MWHC CBOT competency training within 9 months of placement. Registration with the Virginia Board of Medicine as a Surgical Technologist is required as of December 2021.
