Job Description

The Surgical Technologist is an allied health professional working with surgeons and healthcare practitioners, handling instruments, supplies, and equipment during surgeries. They possess expertise in sterile and aseptic techniques, human anatomy, surgical procedures, and technology to support invasive procedures.

Responsibilities

• Maintain the sterile field
• Understand and anticipate the needs of the surgical team
• Ensure patient safety and quality care during procedures
• Check supplies and equipment, prepare sterile setups
• Assist in gowning, gloving, draping, passing instruments, and handling specimens
• Maintain sterile techniques and prepare instruments for sterilization
• Assist with room turnover and preparation for subsequent patients
• Potentially perform as a Certified Surgical First Assistant if enrolled in an approved program
• Follow safety protocols and standard precautions

Qualifications

• BCLS certification within 120 days of employment
• Experience in multiple surgical specialties preferred
• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) certification required
• Effective communication skills in English

Additional Requirements for Radiology / Cath Lab

• 6 months angiography experience preferred
• Experience with PTA, PTCA, laser procedures, and intra-aortic balloon pump
