Role Overview

The Surgical Technologist is an allied health professional working alongside surgeons and healthcare practitioners to facilitate surgical procedures. Responsibilities include handling instruments, supplies, and equipment, and applying sterile and aseptic techniques, combined with knowledge of human anatomy and surgical procedures to support invasive diagnostic and therapeutic interventions.

Qualifications

• BCLS certification within 120 days of employment
• Experience in multiple surgical specialties preferred
• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) certification required
• Effective communication skills in English

Additional Requirements for Specific Departments

Radiology / Cath Lab: 6 months angiography experience preferred, with familiarity in PTA, PTCA, laser procedures, and intra-aortic balloon pump.

INTEGRIS Health Grove Hospital: Responsible for instrument sterilization, decontamination, and documentation per hospital and regulatory standards. Annual training in high-level disinfectant procedures is required.

Certifications

• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) (NATL)

Key Responsibilities

• Maintain sterile fields and anticipate surgeon needs
• Ensure patient safety and quality care during surgeries
• Prepare and set up surgical instruments, supplies, and medications
• Assist in draping, instrument passing, and specimen handling
• Maintain sterile technique and assist with room preparation and cleaning
• Potentially perform as a Certified Surgical First Assistant if enrolled in an approved program
• Follow all safety protocols to minimize exposure to hazards and infectious materials
