Job Overview

Fairview has an immediate opening for a Surgical Technologist in the OR at St. John’s Hospital in Maplewood, MN. The Cardiovascular Surgical Technician receives a $2.50/hour augmentation. This position will work 0.8 FTE (64 hours every two weeks). Shift length is 8 hours on the day/evening shift, with rotating weekends and holidays. As a Surgical Technologist, you will assist in surgical procedures by preparing the operating room, arranging and passing instruments to surgeons, and ensuring a sterile environment under the guidance of a Registered Nurse. You will support the surgical team and maintain safety and efficiency in the OR. Cases include, but are not limited to, general, dental, ear/nose/throat, endoscopy, vascular, thoracic, open heart, orthopedics, neurology, bariatrics, solid organ transplant, gynecologic, colorectal, urology, plastics, and Da Vinci robotics.

As a Surgical Technologist, You Will Be Responsible For

• Supplying appropriate instruments, sutures, and specialty items.
• Maintaining aseptic technique during all sterile procedures.
• Ensuring accurate identification and handling of specimens.
• Counting all required sponges, sharps, and instruments.
• Assuring availability and accurate functioning of supplies and equipment.
• Modifying clinical interventions based on population served.
• Nurturing a culture of improvement, efficiency, and innovative thinking.
• Anticipating the surgeon’s needs.
• Following appropriate action in emergency situations.

Required Qualifications

• Complete one of the following by hire date:
  • Military Surgical Assistant; OR
  • LPN (licensed in MN) Surgical Assistant; OR
  • Surgical Technologist training
  • At least 1 year of Cardiovascular experience as a Surgical Technologist
• Basic Life Support (BLS) through Health Care Providers or ability to obtain by hire date.

Preferred Qualifications

• Graduate from an accredited Surgical Technologist program.
• AST certification or certification eligible at time of hire.
• 1 to 3 years of surgical tech experience.

• Knowledge of age-appropriate outcomes and interventions.
