Job summary

Mayo Clinic in Phoenix, AZ is seeking a Surgical Technologist to provide safe and efficient perioperative support under the supervision of the registered nurse (RN) and in collaboration with the surgeon. The technologist selects, prepares, and maintains instrumentation, equipment and supplies, applying sterile techniques and adapting to unpredictable perioperative situations.

Minimum one year of OR scrubbing experience, graduation from an accredited surgical technology program, NBSTSA

Responsibilities

The Surgical Technologist provides safe and efficient care to the surgical patient under the supervision of the registered nurse (RN) and in collaboration with the surgeon. The Surgical Technologist functions primarily in the scrub role and is responsible for selecting, preparing, and maintaining instrumentation, equipment, and supplies. The Surgical Technologist possesses knowledge in the application of sterile and aseptic technique and is able to adapt to unpredictable situations within the perioperative setting. The Surgical Technologist utilizes knowledge of human anatomy, surgical procedures, surgical instrumentation and technology as member of the surgical team.

Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited or military surgical technology program. Certification in Surgical Technology from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) required within one year of hire date and maintained thereafter. Maintains Basic Life Support (BLS) competency.

Surgical Technologists hired at the following locations prior to the identified dates, are not required to have a Surgical Technology certification through NBSTSA:

Mayo Clinic in Arizona hires prior to 11/20/2024.

Licensure/Certification Required

• Current BLS certification required upon hire.
• Certification through NBSTSA required within one year of hire date.

Meets All Base Level Surgical Technologist Qualifications.

• One year of Operating Room experience is required.
• Minimum of 1+ years of independent scrubbing experience.
• Cardiothoracic Operating Room experience preferred.
• Documented proficiency via supervisor or preceptor sign-off.
• Independently supports advanced procedures in cardiac, transplant, neurosurgery, and vascular specialties, or is cross-trained in three or more specialties outside of these advanced areas.

Schedule Details

Hours: 1045-2315 Monday, Thursday, Friday 3 x 12 hour shifts per week

Weekend Schedule

Weekends to include call shifts, which also includes holidays. Call requirement; specialty teams require a 30-minute return time. Call rooms are available to reserve through security as needed. Call includes weeknight, weekend, and holidays.
