Job summary

Nemours Children's Health in Orlando is seeking a Surgical Technologist to support three 12-hour shifts (1845-0715) with holiday rotation. Regular and holiday call are required, with weekend rotation based on unit needs; a 30-minute response time is expected.

A sign-on bonus is available for qualified applicants. The role, under supervision of surgeons and RNs, involves handling instruments, maintaining sterile fields, assisting with counts, and ensuring safe operative conditions.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma required.
• Graduate of Surgical Technology program required.
• American Heart Association BLS required upon hire.
• Certified surgical technologist preferred.

Responsibilities

• Implements protective measures to prevent skin or tissue injury due to heat sources, lasers, and external pressure.
• Monitors the sterile field and operative team for breaks in technique or compromise to the sterile field.
• Ensures safe instrument handling to protect patient and team safety.
• Identifies, collects, and transfers specimens to the RN circulator as directed.
• Participates in needle, sponge and instrument counts.
• Implements latex precautions as needed to protect patients with latex allergies.
• Participates in Universal Protocol Sign In, TIME OUT, and Sign Out for each procedure.
• Maintains awareness of patient allergies and implements latex precautions as needed.
• Ensures sterility of instrumentation and checks package integrity before opening.
• Assists with patient transfers to prevent shear injuries.
