Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Review procedure and surgeon preference cards to determine needs for each surgery.
• Assist and collaborate with circulating nurse to set up for procedures with proper instrumentation and supplies.
• Pass instruments and retract as directed at the sterile field.
• Anticipate needs of the surgical team and provide instruments, equipment, and supplies.
• Assist in care, cleaning and maintenance of instruments and supplies per guidelines.
• Collaborate with circulating nurse to ensure counts of sponges, sharps, and instruments are correct.
• Maintain asepsis to preserve sterile field integrity.
• Maintain inventory of supplies in operating rooms and storerooms.
• Assist in transporting patients and moving equipment as required.
• Communicate effectively and participate in WHO checklist and safety initiatives.
• Rotate to on-call for nights, weekends, and holidays.

Based upon such expertise, the Surgical Technologist 1 is responsible for providing all the necessary instrumentation, supplies and equipment for the surgical procedure.
