Job summary

Minimum education includes graduation from an ABHES/CAAHEP-accredited Surgical Technology program with NBSTSA or NCCT certification and CPR. The role requires 0-2 years of related experience and basic aseptic technique knowledge. Ortho experience is preferred and on-call may be involved.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of ABHES/CAAHEP-accredited Surgical Technology program or state-approved equivalent.
  • Certified through NBSTSA or NCCT (licensure/certification).
  • CPR certification.
  • 0-2 years of related experience.
  • Basic knowledge of aseptic technique.

Responsibilities

  • Creates and maintains sterile field and prepares instrumentation for procedures.
  • Assists in achieving case turnover and maintains surgeon's preference cards.
  • Manages instrument, sponge, and needle counts; reports discrepancies as required.
  • Performs high level disinfection and environmental cleaning of the OR.
  • Develops competency across specialty cases and can serve as a preceptor.
  • Works with the surgical team to ensure asepsis and patient safety.

CPR certification.Work Experience: 0-2 years of related experience.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Basic knowledge of aseptic technique. Ability to prepare and maintain a sterile field. Basic knowledge of surgical instrumentation.Essential Functions and Responsibilities: Creates and maintains sterile field, anticipates and provides instrumentation and supplies necessary to perform surgery. Facilitates patient flow through case turnover. Performs environmental activities to maintain asepsis of operating room. Anticipates needs in instruments, sutures, sponges, and supplies according to technique procedure, and special requirements. Maintains correct sponge, needle, and instrument count with registered nurse and reports discrepancies as policy requires. Performs high level disinfection. Develops and demonstrates competency in specialty team cases and can serve as a preceptor. Demonstrates competencies in multiple specialties. Makes changes in surgeon's preference cards per surgeon requests to keep them current.Decision Making: Independent judgment in planning sequence of operations and making minor decisions in complex technical or professional field.Working Relationships: Works directly with patients and/or customers. Works with internal/external customers. Works with other healthcare professionals and staff.
