Job summary

Arizona Pain is seeking a clinically competent surgical technologist to support the intraoperative team under RN supervision. The role emphasizes patient safety, sterile technique, and effective collaboration with the health care team in a busy surgical setting.

Responsibilities include assisting physicians, maintaining a sterile field, preparing instruments and supplies, documenting procedures, and supporting inventory and room turnover.

Qualifications

  • Must have 1 year current operating room experience (student experience allowed).
  • Must be CPR certified and recertified per American Heart Association standards (every 2 years).
  • Works efficiently with patients including emergency situations.
  • Works independently yet is a cooperative team member.

Responsibilities

  • Assist physician with instruments, supplies and equipment during procedures.
  • Maintain sterile field and perform sterile prep/drape of patient.
  • Set up sterile field with instruments and medications for procedures.
  • Document intra-procedure records as appropriate.
  • Assist with cleaning, sterilization and supply inventory.
  • Participate in performance improvement activities and continuing education.

Job description

A clinically competent certified surgical technologist who works under the supervision of the registered nurse in delivering safe and effective care to the patient during the intraoperative period. Effectively interacts with patients and health care team members, while maintaining the surgical department standards.

Primary Job Functions/Responsibilities:
  • Practices ASC's patient verification and time-out policy supported by Joint Commission.
  • Acts as the patient advocate.
  • Assisting performing physician with instruments, supplies and equipment necessary for the procedure.
  • Constant vigilance to the sterile field.
  • Scrubs, gowns, and gloves as appropriate for the procedure.
  • Sets up sterile field with instruments, supplies and medications/solutions for the procedure.
  • Sterile prep and drape patient for procedure.
  • Prepares dressings as needed for procedures.
  • Documents as appropriate on the patient's intra-procedure record.
  • Cleans and prepares instruments for terminal sterilization.
  • Acts as a preceptor for new scrub tech hires.
  • Assists members of the procedure room team with cleaning of procedure room.
  • Assists with supply ordering inventory.
  • Maintains good attendance and arrives to work punctually.
  • Supports and follows Arizona Pain Specialist's policy and procedures.
  • Participates in continuing education.
  • Collaborates with other health team members and assists in planning & delivering patient care.
  • Participates in performance improvement activities.
  • Resolves work conflict in a professional manner conducive to team norms.
Most Demanding Tasks:
  • Providing and maintaining patient care in a busy environment
  • Work requires prolonged walking and standing.
  • Frequently lifts and positions patients with the assistance of other personnel.
BACKGROUND REQUIREDExperience:
  • Must possess a minimum of one-year current operating room experience (student experience allowed).
  • Possesses a service orientation.
  • Should possess the ability to understand and react effectively to the unique needs and care for all patient populations
  • Must be a graduate of an accredited school or Surgical Technology Program.
Education:Skills & Certifications:
  • A current Certification for Surgical Technologists is preferred.
  • Must be currently CPR certified and recertified per American Heart Association standards (every two years).
  • Works efficiently with patients, including emergency situations.
  • Works independently as a self-starter but can work as a cooperative team member.
  • Embraces change and keeps current with knowledge of new surgical procedures.
