Job summary

Appalachian Regional Healthcare (ARH) is seeking a qualified Operating Room Technician to support the surgical team and maintain aseptic conditions. You will participate in patient preparation, instrument setup, and intraoperative assistance in a fast-paced OR environment.

Requirements include a High School Diploma and OR-related certification with 1–3 years of experience preferred. On-call rotation and adherence to OR policies are expected.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Sets up tables, instruments and supplies required for specific operation.
• Assists surgical team during operative procedure.
• Assists in preparation for surgical procedures.
• Assists in preoperative preparation of patients.
• Assists with table equipment and patient positioning.
• Prepares operative specimens and deliver to Laboratory.
• Transports patients to/from Operating Room, Recovery Room, and patient areas.
• Cleans and stocks storage room and OR equipment after surgery.
• Prepares OR for next case or next day.
• Rotates on call as required.

Owns specific responsibilities for maintenance and policies for various responsibilities within the Operating Room. Takes direction from management of specific tasks to support operating rooms that are of the highest level of quality and safety, in meeting the needs of key doctors, surgeons, and other critical Operating Room.

Owns specific responsibilities for maintenance and policies for various responsibilities within the Operating Room. Takes direction from management of specific tasks to support operating rooms that are of the highest level of quality and safety, in meeting the needs of key doctors, surgeons, and other critical Operating Room.

Responsibilities

• Sets up tables, instruments and supplies required for specific operation. Carries out surgical asepsis.
• Assists surgical team during operative procedure.
• Assists in the preparation for surgical procedures.
• Assists in the preoperative preparation of patients.
• Assists with table equipment, positioning of patients, application of plaster casts and dressings.
• Prepares operative specimens, places in preservative solution and delivers to Laboratory for analysis.
• Assists in transporting patients to and from the Operating Room, Recovery Room, and patient area.
• Assists in cleaning operating room, equipment and instruments following surgery.
• Cleans and stocks storage room.
• Prepares Operating Room for the next case or next day.
• Records data on patients' record data sheets and O.R. logs.
• Must rotate on call as required.
• Performs duties of Nursing Aide as requested, when O.R. is not busy.
• Performs other related duties as required.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
• Complies with all policies and standards.

Qualifications

Education

• High School Diploma required.

Experience

• One (1) to three (3) years of experience preferred.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Working knowledge of problem solving and decision making skills.
• Working knowledge of digital literacy skills.

Licenses & Certifications

• Grade 10: Two years' experience as an O.R.T. including successful completion of hospital sponsored self-instructional program in operating room technology as well as documented clinical hours; OR
• A Certified Operating Room Technician with six (6) months experience in operating room technology.
• Successful completion of a hospital-approved Nursing Aide Training Program.
• Successful completion of on-the-job training program in O.R. technique.
