Job summary

Ascension in Port St. Joe, FL, seeks a Surgical Tech to orchestrate the sterile operating environment and support surgical teams during procedures.

Responsibilities include instrument handling, counts, patient preparation, positioning, and assisting with intraoperative hemostasis. Minimum BLS within 30 days; education options include high school diploma with experience or an Associate's/Technical degree.

Qualifications

• BLS Provider certification required within 1 month of hire or transfer date.
• Education options include High School diploma with 2 years of cumulative experience, an Associate's/Technical degree, or 4 years of applicable experience.
• Certified scrub tech or at least one year of experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Prepare sterile operating environment and operate with precise sterile and non-sterile instrumentation.
• Anticipate physician needs and hand instruments, sponges, and supplies during procedures.
• Maintain instrument counts and asset tracking to prevent retained items; organize instruments for safety.
• Assist with patient preparation, transfer, positioning, and sterile draping, and aid surgeons with hemostasis.

How you’ll make an impact in this role

• Orchestrate the sterile operating environment by preparing surgical suites with precise sterile and non-sterile instrumentation, equipment, and supplies tailored to specific surgical cases.
• Partner directly with surgical teams by seamlessly anticipating physician needs and handing instruments, sponges, and supplies during complex surgical procedures.
• Maintain rigorous surgical safety and asset tracking by organizing instruments systematically and conducting precise, continuous counts throughout procedures to prevent retained surgical items.
• Support patient safety and surgical access by assisting with patient preparation, transfer, positioning, and sterile draping, as well as aiding surgeons with intraoperative hemostasis.

What Minimum Requirements You’ll Need

• BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.

Education

• High School diploma equivalency with 2 years of cumulative experience OR Associate's degree/Technical degree OR 4 years of applicable cumulative job specific experience required.

• Certified scrub tech or at least one year of experience
