Job summary

Allina Health's Surgical Services team in New Ulm, MN is seeking a Surgical Technologist to join a 0.9 FTE role across day/evening/night shifts. The position involves providing sterile prep, instrument handling, and assisting the surgeon under RN supervision, with on-call after orientation and a 4th weekend rotation.

Qualified applicants will have an accredited Surgical Technology program, certification as CST or TS-C, and current BLS.

Qualifications

• Associate's or Vocational degree graduate of accredited Surgical Technology program.
• 1+ year of Surgical Technologist experience preferred.
• Certified Surgical Technologist (NBSTSA) or TS-C (NCCT) within 1 year of hire.
• Current BLS certification from AHA, ARC, or in-house provided within 30 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Participates as a surgical team member.
• Prepares the OR and sets up for procedures.
• Identifies supplies, instruments and equipment needed.
• Maintains a sterile field and aseptic technique.
• Assists the physician in the scrub role during procedures.
• Maintains communication with the circulating nurse and team.
• Performs counts of sponges and sharps accurately.
• On-call duties after orientation; weekend rotation every 4th.

Tasks are supervised by Registered Nurse and delegated by the surgeon. May also perform in the sterile processing function as needed. Will eventually be required to take call after orientation.Principle ResponsibilitiesParticipates as a surgical team memberPrepares the OR and sets up for procedures.Identifies supplies, instruments and equipment needed.Maintains safe environment for patient and other staff, using electrical equipment and instruments correctly.Follows aseptic technique standards of practice.Complies with regulatory requirements for point of use care of instruments.Handles medications and specimens following policies/procedures.Assists the physician in the scrub role during surgical proceduresMaintains a sterile field.Anticipates needs for instruments, equipment and other supplies.Performs sponge, sharps and other counts accurately.Accounts for all instruments and items on the field.Communicates to physician and circulator when needs arise during the surgical intervention.Other duties as assigned.Required QualificationsAssociate's or Vocational degree graduate of accredited Surgical Technology programPreferred Qualifications1+ year of Surgical Technologist experienceLicenses/CertificationsMust meet at least ONE of the requirements below: Certified Surgical Technologist from The National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting within 1 year of hire Tech in Surgery TS-C (NCCT) Certification within 1 year of hireMust meet at least ONE of the requirements below: Current BLS certification from the American Heart Association Current BLS certification from the American Red Cross Allina in-house BLS training (within 30 days of hire)Physical DemandsMedium Work:Lifting weight up to 50 lbs. occasionally, up to 25 lbs. frequentlyPay RangePay Range: $32.92 to $45.12 per hourThe pay described reflects the base hiring pay range.
