Position Summary:
Assists the surgeon during operative and invasive procedures. Ensures the operating suite is adequately prepared for procedures. Works collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team. Assists in maintaining a safe and clean environment. Reports to the Clinical Nurse Manager.
Education/Certification:
- Must have successfully completed a nationally accredited Surgical Technology program and hold a Surgical Technologist Certification from a recognized national certifying body such as the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (CST) or the National Center for Competency Testing (TS-C).
- Candidates without current certification but who have completed an accredited Surgical Technologist program must obtain certification within 90 days of hire from a recognized certifying body.
- Surgical Technicians who acted as Operating Room Technicians before October 1, 2023, may be grandfathered per CT Public Act 23-195.
Must maintain certification while employed. Must have Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification upon hire or obtain it during orientation and maintain it during employment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

- Provide age-appropriate care, demonstrating knowledge of development principles.
- Efficiently perform in the scrub role during surgical procedures under RN supervision.
- Assist in room turnover activities, including cleaning and preparing equipment.
- Handle and process specimens appropriately, in collaboration with RNs.
- Maintain aseptic technique throughout procedures and communicate any breaks in technique.
- Communicate clearly with team members and leaders.
