Job summary

Panorama Eyecare in Cheyenne, WY is seeking a PRN Surgical Technologist to support the operating room team. You will assist with patient positioning, instrument setup, sterile field maintenance, and intraoperative instrument passing under the nurse direction, following ASC protocols and AORN guidelines.

The role emphasizes high standards of infection control, attention to detail, and ongoing education; compensation varies by certification status and shifts run 6–10 hours, 10 hours weekly average.

Qualifications

  • Graduation from High School or equivalent.
  • Completed Training from a Surgical Technologist Program, either accredited or hospital based.
  • Surgical Technologist license is highly preferred.
  • COA certified preferred.
  • BLS required within 3 months.

Responsibilities

  • Provides a high level of customer service in a compassionate, caring manner.
  • Assists with properly positioning patients for comfort and safety as needed.
  • Assures that proper supplies, instruments and equipment are available for the procedures.
  • Ensures that equipment is functioning properly.
  • Scrubs, gowns, and gloves themselves according to AORN guidelines.
  • Sets up sterile field with instruments, supplies, equipment and medications/solutions needed for procedure and anticipates surgeon’s needs.
  • Performs appropriate counts with circulator per ASC Protocol.
  • Gowns and gloves surgeon per AORN guidelines.
  • Drapes the sterile field.
  • Passes instruments, etc., to surgeons during procedure per ASC Protocol.
  • Maintains highest standard of care for infection control in handling and disposing of infectious/hazardous waste materials
  • Assists with stocking supplies in the OR’s, Sterile Storage, Sterilization Area and Decontamination areas.
  • Assists Materials Management Coordinator on a routine basis and helps cover when needed.
  • Cleans and prepares instruments for sterilization.
  • Sterilizes instruments according to ASC Policies and Procedures, along with instructions for use.
  • Assists other members of the OR team with cleaning of rooms.
  • Assists in prepping the room for the next patient, including facilitating the changing of anesthesia equipment.
  • Seeks out continuing education opportunities and takes responsibility and initiative to complete.
  • Identifies actual and potential risks to patients and others, and takes action to minimize/eliminate risks and maximize safety.
  • Awareness of correct procedures in case of an emergency, and locations of emergency call system.
  • Updates physician Preference cards as needed.
  • Monitors use of supplies and inventory, and communicates appropriately.
  • Adheres to ASC Infection Control Policies and Procedures.

The Role

The Surgical Technologist participates in the care of the surgical patient in the operating room under the direction of the registered nurse. The trained technologist will perform a variety of duties including, but not limited to, preparation of the OR suite, handling of surgical instruments/supplies and equipment needed during the surgical procedure. This candidate must have knowledge of ophthalmic procedures and the ability to anticipate the needs of the surgeon, maintains the sterile field, and ensures quality care during the procedure.

Education/Certifications/Experience
  • Graduation from High School or equivalent.
  • Completed Training from a Surgical Technologist Program, either accredited or hospital based. Certification Preferred.

Physical Demands
  • Ability to be on feet for long periods of time (up to 12 hours per day) in a fast-paced setting.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to bend, stoop and twist without pain or discomfort.
  • Ability to raise hands and arms to shoulder level without restriction, pain, or discomfort.
Additional Job Details
  • Works at our ASC location at 1300 E 20th St. Cheyenne, Wyoming 82001
  • This is a PRN position averaging 10 hours per week, with shifts scheduled Monday through Thursday. Typical shifts range from 6 to 10 hours, depending on the surgery schedule.
  • Compensation will vary based on certification status:
  • Non-certified: $25.37 - $29.69 per hour
  • Certified: $27.47 - $32.22 per hour
