Job summary

UnitedHealth Group in Seattle, WA is seeking an experienced Scrub Nurse/Surgical Technologist to support the operating team. You will assist the Surgeon, manage sterile instruments, and help ensure high-quality patient care throughout procedures.

The role requires WA state registration as a Surgical Technologist or ability to obtain by start date, plus AHA/BLS certification. A sign-on bonus is offered for external candidates along with a comprehensive benefits package.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Surgeon as Scrub Nurse and Sterile Assistant; ensure aseptic technique.
• Provide instruments, supplies and equipment as needed for surgical procedures.
• Assist in assessment, planning and implementation of care for the surgical patient.
• Follow health, safety, and regulatory guidelines and protect PHI per HIPAA.
• Respond promptly to requests from patients and staff and participate in quality care improvements.

Position in this function is responsible for working with the surgical team to insure that quality care is given to the patient. Works with team members in providing assistance to the Surgeon by being familiar with the surgical procedure, instruments, supplies and equipment.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Consistently exhibits behavior and communication skills that demonstrate Optum's commitment to superior customer service, including quality, care and concern with each and every internal and external customer
• Assumes the responsibility of a Scrub Nurse
• Functions as the Sterile Assistant to the Surgeon
• Assists in the assessment, planning and implementation of care given to the surgical patient
• Demonstrates ability to use supplies, equipment and instruments appropriately
• Follows strict principles of aseptic technique both in procedures and in processing of equipment and instrumentation
• Demonstrates competence in assisting with surgical procedures
• Demonstrates knowledge of health and safety policies and procedures, regulatory agency requirements, quality improvement process, facility and departmental policies, procedures and protocols
• Demonstrates knowledge of Universal Body Precautions
• Participates in the identification and implementation of improvements in the delivery of quality care
• Responds expediently and courteously to requests for help from patients and staff
• Uses judgment in seeking consultation from circulating Nurse and other unit Nursing staff
• Maintains composure and initiates emergency care as appropriate according to ACLS guidelines
• Works with team members in the selection of supplies, instrumentation and equipment needed for patient care
• Works with team members in the processing of sterile supplies, instruments and equipment and their replacement to proper areas
• Assists Anesthesia staff as requested
• Uses, protects, and discloses Optum patients' protected health information (PHI) only in accordance with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) standards
• Performs additional duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:

• Current WA State Surgical Technologist Registration (ST) or ability to obtain by start date
• Current AHA/BLS Certification

Preferred Qualifications:

• Graduate of an accredited school of Surgical Technologists
• Current ORT (Operating Room Technician) certification
• 2+ years of experience as a surgical technologist in an acute care setting or a busy multi-specialty ASC

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). The hourly pay for this role will range from $27.00 to $37.00 per hour based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
