Job summary

Paylocity is seeking a Surgical Technician to assist in operating rooms, ensuring sterility, proper instrument setup, and smooth procedural flow.

Responsibilities include preparing the OR, sterilizing equipment, passing instruments, maintaining aseptic technique, documenting supplies, and collaborating with surgeons, nurses, and anesthesia teams to support patient care throughout perioperative care.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited surgical technology program preferred.
  • Certification as a Surgical Technician (CST) by a recognized certifying body preferred.
  • Experience as a surgical technician in an operating room setting preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of surgical instruments and procedures; attention to detail; ability to work under pressure; effective communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare the operating room by setting up surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies.
  • Ensure all surgical instruments and equipment are properly sterilized and ready for use.
  • Assist the surgical team by passing instruments, sponges, and sutures during surgery.
  • Maintain a sterile field and ensure adherence to aseptic techniques and infection control protocols.
  • Assist in preparing patients for surgery, including positioning, draping, and providing preoperative care as needed.
  • Handle and label specimens taken for laboratory analysis.
  • Monitor and manage the inventory of surgical supplies and equipment, ensuring availability and proper functioning.
  • Assist in cleaning and restocking the operating room after procedures.
  • Work closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated patient care.
  • Assist in maintaining accurate and detailed records of the surgical procedure, including counts of sponges, needles, and instruments.
  • Adhere to all hospital policies, procedures, and regulations, as well as state and federal guidelines.

Job Summary:

Requirements
  • Graduate of an accredited surgical technology program preferred.
  • Certification: Certification as a Surgical Technician (CST) by a recognized certifying body (e.g., NBSTSA) preferred.
  • Experience: Previous experience as a surgical technician in an operating room setting preferred.
  • Skills: Strong knowledge of surgical instruments and procedures, excellent attention to detail, ability to work under pressure, and effective communication skills.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to lift and move patients and surgical equipment as necessary, prolonged periods of standing and walking, ability to handle physical and emotional stress.
Work Schedule:

Regular schedule is based on patient volume and surgical schedule. Schedule is set by the Nursing Management prior to shift’s start.
