Job summary

Trinity Health Ann Arbor is seeking a Surgical Technologist to join the Labor and Delivery team on the 12-hour night shift. This part-time role supports the operating room by preparing sterile setups and assisting during procedures.

You will scrub for surgical cases, pass instruments, assist with positioning and circulating tasks, and ensure accurate counts. Certification within 12 months of hire is required, and an associate degree or accredited program is expected.

Qualifications

• Education: Associates degree or equivalent (minimum 4 years) or Accredited Certification Program for Surgical Technology.
• Certification required within 12 months of hire.
• Certification/Licensure: CST within 12 months of hire.
• No experience required with Associate’s degree; two years if no degree.

Responsibilities

• Scrubs for surgical cases according to sterile procedures and dons sterile gowns and gloves.
• Prepares operative site by sterile setup of instruments, drapes, and sutures as per surgeon preference.
• Passes instruments and assists during procedures, maintains sterile field, and supports surgeon needs.
• Assists RN with circulating duties: opening supplies, positioning, equipment, and prep.
• Counts sponges, needles, and instruments at case start and end; assists with dressing the site.

Shift:

Labor and Delivery has 12 LDR’s, 4 High Risks Rooms, 7 Bed Triage Areas, 6 Ante partum Rooms, 3 C/Section Rooms, 4 Bed PACU. All patient rooms are private. The treatment Team consists of RNs, Surgical Technicians Patient Care Technicians & Unit Clerks. – all located on the unit.

Required Qualifications

Education

• REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE
• Education: Associates degree or equivalent experience (minimum of 4 years) or Accredited Certification Program for Surgical Technology
• Experience: None unless no degree
• Certification/Licensure: Certification required within 12 months of hire.

Experience

• No experience required with Associate’s degree; without Associate’s degree, two (2) years of surgical technologist experience required.
• Certification/Licensure: Certification required within 12 months of hire.

What You Will Do

• Scrubs for surgical cases according to established sterile procedures and changes into operative clothing, dons sterile gowns and gloves, and assists the surgical team with the same.
• Prepares for scheduled operative procedure by arranging sterile set up of instrument table with drapes, instruments and sutures required for procedure according to surgeon preference and maintains sterile field throughout the case.
• Passes instruments, sponges, sutures, and other sterile supplies and equipment to surgeons and assists during procedures, holds retraction devices, anticipates and responds to surgeon needs during course of surgery.
• Assists RN with circulating duties such as opening supplies, assisting with positioning, obtaining equipment and supplies, bagging sponges, and preparing the operative site.
• Counts sponges, needles, and instruments used during surgery; at the beginning of the case, before closing, final counts and when relieved at the end of the shift prior to end of case. Assists with dressing of operative site following closing.
