Eye Health America (Clemson Eye affiliate) is seeking a Surgical Technologist to assist the surgeon and nurse during ophthalmic procedures at our Southeast center. The role may require overtime to support patient care and OR schedules.

The position requires either one year of surgical experience or completion of a formal surgical technician program, with Surgical Technologist certification preferred but not required. On-site work, perioperative duties, and strict asepsis are essential.

Qualifications

  • Surgical Technologist certification preferred, but not required.
  • At least one year of surgical experience or completion of a formal surgical technician program required.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in preparing the operating room for the planned procedure.
  • Assists with maintaining an adequate inventory of supplies.
  • Sets up sterile operating field with instruments and supplies necessary for that procedure; arranges instruments, sutures, drapes, and supplies per AORN standards.
  • Observes strict aseptic technique throughout the entire procedure and report break-in technique to the circulating nurse and the surgeon.
  • Passes instruments, supplies, and sutures to the surgeon and assistants as needed and in such a manner so that their attention is not diverted from the operative field.
  • Sees that all instruments, needles, sponges, and other supplies are removed from the operative field.

This individual is responsible for assisting the surgeon and nurse in rendering professional care to patients undergoing surgical procedures within the center in accordance with established procedures. Overtime may be required.

Requirements
