Overview

• Critical Access Hospital
• 80 hours / 2 weeks
• Monday - Friday Variable Day Shift Hours
• On-Call Rotation

Position Details

Works under the direction of a surgeon to facilitate the safe and effective conduct of invasive surgical procedures, ensuring that the operating room environment is safe, that equipment functions properly, and that the operative procedure is conducted under conditions that maximize patient safety. Possesses expertise in sterile and aseptic techniques and applies knowledge of human anatomy, surgical procedures, and tools to assist physicians during invasive procedures. May include day, evening, night, weekend, holiday, and on-call hours. Report-back time for on-call per department guidelines. Performs other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

• Handle instruments, supplies, and equipment during surgery. Anticipate the needs of the surgeon and ensure the sterile field is maintained.
• Assist the surgical team before, during, and after procedures, including preparing instruments, assisting with patient positioning, performing counts, gowning and gloving the surgeon, passing instruments, and assisting with room cleanup.
• Participate in department performance improvement activities.

Education and Experience

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Graduate of a CAAHEP-accredited Surgical Technology program required or currently participating in accreditation.

Certification/Licensure

• Certified Surgical Technologist through NBSTSA preferred. If not accredited, certification required if participating in accreditation process.
• CPR or BLS certification required within 90 days.

Physical Demands

Regularly use hands, stand, walk, and occasionally sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, or smell. Must regularly lift up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds. Vision abilities include close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth perception.
