Job summary

Children’s Colorado seeks a Surgical Technician Lead to provide intra-operative technical assistance to physicians and RNs. The role includes leading one or more surgical specialties, coordinating supplies, training staff, and participating in quality improvement initiatives.

In this full-time days position in the Anschutz Operating Room, you’ll precept new employees, support room turnovers and case setup, and serve as a resource to the team while advancing surgical service goals.

Qualifications

  • Associates degree in Surgical Technology is required.
  • Three years of surgical technician experience in an operating room is required.
  • Graduate of a military training program in surgical technology or Diploma in Surgical Technology with a surgical technologist certification may be considered in lieu of an Associate’s Degree in Surgical Technology.
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers at time of hire
  • NBSTSA or NCCT Certified Surgical Technologist
  • State of Colorado DORA Surgical Technologist or Surgical Assistant Registration

Responsibilities

  • Acts as assistant service leader for one or more surgical specialties. Coordinates purchases of supplies and equipment; assists in orientation of staff to the specialty; creates and updates procedures and preference cards; procures loaner equipment; mentors staff and trainees.
  • Participates in proactive preparation for assigned surgical specialties and case reviews.
  • Assists with room turnovers and case setup; restocks and orders supplies; supports department quality improvement activities.
  • Provides in-services to staff regarding surgical specialty.
  • Uses preference cards to prepare for procedures; scrubs cases; anticipates surgeons' needs.
  • Precepts new employees.
  • Performs lead responsibilities for other team members, including training and monitoring.
  • Participates in committees and projects; demonstrates advanced subject matter expertise.

Job description

The Surgical Technician Lead is a certified clinician who provides intra-operative technical assistance to physicians and Registered Nurses (RN) who care for patients experiencing a surgical intervention or other invasive procedure. This role actively participates in the work of the unit, committee work, and program level activities and projects. In addition, the Lead Technician takes on the additional duties of an Assistant Service Leader for one or more surgical specialties.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Acts as assistant service leader for one or more surgical specialties. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, coordinating the purchase of supplies and equipment for the service(s) as needed; acting as a resource to staff and physicians for the services provided; assisting in orientation of staff to the specialty; creating and updating new procedures and preference cards as needed; acquiring loaner equipment/instruments/supplies from outside sources as needed; being a positive role model; and assisting with the implementation of new procedures and/or equipment/instrumentation within the service.
  • Participates in proactive preparation for assigned surgical specialties and/or participates in case review.
  • Assists with room turnovers and set‑ups; restocks and orders supplies; utilizes downtime effectively; and participates in department quality improvement activities.
  • Provides in-services to staff as applicable to surgical specialty.
  • Utilizes preference cards to prepare for surgical procedure; scrubs all cases as assigned; anticipates needs of case by opening correct supplies and instruments; is attentive to flow of the surgery so that surgeons’ needs are anticipated.
  • Precepts new employees.
  • Perform lead responsibilities for other team members, which include but are not limited to, training, and monitoring.
  • Participates in departmental, divisional, and/or organizational committees and projects as assigned.
  • Acts as a role model and demonstrates advanced subject matter expertise for other team members.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Degrees
    • Associates degree in Surgical Technology is required
  • Experience
    • Three years of surgical technician experience in an operating room is required
  • Equivalency
    • Graduate of a military training program in surgical technology or Diploma in Surgical Technology with a surgical technologist certification may be considered in lieu of an Associate’s Degree in Surgical Technology
  • Licenses & Certifications
    • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers at time of hire
    • NBSTSA or NCCT Certified Surgical Technologist
    • State of Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies (DORA) Surgical Technologist or Surgical Assistant Registration
Salary Information

Pay is dependent on applicant's relevant experience.

Hourly Range: $34.45 to $51.67
