Job Description
The Surgical Technician I is an individual who is certified and educated to perform surgical technology services that contribute to safe, quality, and fiscally responsible care of patients. This is an entry-level position where the individual practices with guidance and is dependent on a preceptor, emerging from orientation at the advanced beginner level.
Essential Responsibilities
- Collaborates with the circulating nurse to prepare the operating room, gather supplies, and maintain the sterile field.
- Assists during surgery by passing instruments, maintaining the sterile field, and supporting the surgical team.
- Performs tasks at the sterile field as directed, including handling specimens, preparing sutures, and assisting with supplies.
- Recognizes and reports patient safety issues, maintains confidentiality, and respects patient rights.
- Supports efficient turnover by prioritizing equipment and supply preparation.
- Demonstrates teamwork and effective communication with patients and staff.
Required Qualifications
- High School diploma or GED
- Basic Life Support certification; Surgical Technologist Certification within 1 year of hire
- 0-1 years related experience
- Graduate of an accredited surgical technologist program or equivalent military/training program
- Certified surgical technologist credential from a recognized body
- Basic computer skills

Physical Requirements
Medium work: exerting up to 50 pounds occasionally and 20 pounds frequently. Requires standing and moving throughout shifts.
