Job summary

Harris Regional Medical Center in Sylva, NC is seeking a Certified Surgical Technologist to join our operating room team. The role involves setting up procedures, scrubbing on cases and supporting patient care under RN supervision.

We perform diverse surgeries in a compact OR with strong emphasis on team communication, efficiency, and safety. A 7,500 USD sign-on bonus is offered with a 2-year commitment, and schedules are typically days with on-call rotations as needed.

Qualifications

• Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
• Certification as a Surgical Technician and/or graduation from an approved OR Technician program, required.
• AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 90 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Set up surgical procedures and scrub on cases to facilitate the flow of surgical patients.
• Work under the guidance of the Registered Nurse and assist in patient care.
• Ensure effective communication between the circulating nurse, patient, staff, physician and hospital departments.

The operating room is equipped with six beds, with a dedicated C-section and Urology OR suites, and Endoscopy procedure suite. We have an average of 400 cases per month. The scope of procedures includes a diverse range of specialties: Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT), Cataract and Retinal Eye surgeries, Gynecologic, Laparoscopic and Endoscopic, Orthopedic including robotic assisted total joints, Pain Management, Podiatry, and Gastroenterological surgeries. The majority of cases are general and orthopedic.

Surgical operations are conducted Monday through Friday, with additional night, weekend, and holiday call rotations to ensure continuous coverage. Additionally, the implantation of a dedicated call team for weeknights and weekends allows for a minimal call requirement from core staff, as well as promoting an excellent work/life balance.

How you'll contribute

A Surgical Technologist who excels in this role:

• The Surgical Technician is responsible for setting up surgical procedures, scrubbing on cases and performing appropriate functions to facilitate the flow of surgical patients.

• Works under the guidance of the Registered Nurse. Shares responsibility for the care and safety of the patients who come under his or her care.

• Included within this assignment is the responsibility for ensuring effective communication between him or her and the circulating nurse, the patient, other staff, physician and other hospital departments.

• Certifications: AHA Basic Life Support (BLS), within 90 days of hire.
