Surgical Technician, 1st Shift, Part Time-Mary & Elizabeth Hospital

The Surgical Technician provides direct patient care under the supervision of the Registered Nurse during surgical procedures by anticipating and supplying equipment, supplies, and instruments to the surgical team, utilizing sterile techniques for patient safety.

Essential Functions
  1. Prepares the operative area, drapes the sterile field, and maintains an aseptic environment by practicing sterile techniques throughout the procedure, reporting contamination when necessary.
  2. Passes instruments, sponges, and sutures to the surgeon and assistants; counts needles, sponges, and instruments at appropriate intervals; monitors medications.
  3. Receives and handles surgical specimens as directed by the surgeon.
  4. Prepares the operating room for cases by setting up tables, instruments, and supplies according to the case type; assists with room turnover.
  5. Handles cleaning, reprocessing, and storage of instruments and equipment.
Shift Requirements
  • Shift Length: 8-12 hours
  • Shifts per week: 3-5
  • Overtime: Often required
Other Functions
  • Assists in patient transfer and positioning as directed.
  • Maintains compliance with all policies, procedures, and standards of conduct.
  • Ensures confidentiality by complying with HIPAA privacy and security standards.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.
