Job summary

Dayton Children's is seeking a Surgical Technologist to support the pediatric intraoperative phase on the Main Campus and the South Campus, working 3 twelve-hour shifts (7:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.).

You will prepare age-appropriate instrumentation, maintain sterile technique, and pass instruments while collaborating with nurses, physicians, and the care team; CPR may be required within two weeks of hire. Graduates of an accredited program or HS diploma with certification are eligible.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited surgical technology program.
• CPR certification may be preferred and must be obtained within 2 weeks of start date.
• Graduates from an accredited surgical technology school are eligible.

Responsibilities

• Assist surgeon in pediatric intraoperative phase following standards (AORN/OSA).
• Maintain sterile technique and prepare age-appropriate instrumentation and supplies.
• Pass instrumentation and use physician preference cards.
• Collaborate with nurses and physicians to meet patient/family needs.
• Participate in quality improvement activities and act as patient advocate.
• Work at both Main Campus and South Campus as required.

A surgical technologist is responsible for assisting the surgeon in the pediatric intraoperative phase utilizing AORN and OSA standards of practice. Collaborates with other healthcare team members to meet the patients/families needs in a cost-effective manner. Provides customer service for the patients/families, nurses, physicians, and other healthcare team members. Functions as a team player and practices open communication with a positive flexible attitude. Assists in meeting departmental goals by participating in quality improvement activities. Functions as a role model, change agent, education, coaching, and patient advocate. The role of the surgical technologist includes maintaining sterile technique, preparing for each procedure with age appropriate instrumentation and supplies, utilizing physicians preference cards, and passing instrumentation. Any budgeted position may be required to take call in accordance with the departmental policy. Position will require working both main and south campuses. MUST BE A GRADUATE OF AN ACCREDITED SURGICAL TECHNICAL SCHOOL

Department Specific Job Details:

Hours: 3 12 hour Shifts 7a-730p

Education: Associate's degree in Surgical Technology OR High School Diploma/GED plus Certification of Completion in Surgical Technology is required. Must be a graduate from an Accredited Surgical Technical school.

Certification/Licensure: CPR is preferred at hire, but must be obtained within 2 weeks of start date.
