Job summary

Hillsboro Health (Hillsboro Area Hospital) is seeking a Surgical Technician to assist in the care and preparation of surgical patients under RN supervision. You will prepare sterile and non-sterile supplies, maintain surgical suites, and support other disciplines to ensure quality patient outcomes.

The role requires flexibility for on-call shifts, strong attention to safety, confidentiality, and the ability to work with diverse teams across age groups from infant to geriatric.

Qualifications

  • Completion of accredited Surgical Technician program.
  • 1 year hospital surgical experience preferred.
  • Scrub Tech Certification preferred.

A Surgical Technician assists in the care and preparation of surgical patients as assigned and directed under the general supervision of a Registered Nurse with consideration of the aging process, human development stages, and cultural diversity. Assist in the care and preparation of sterile and non-sterile supplies and equipment. Collaborates with other professional disciplines to ensure effective and efficient patient care delivery and the achievement of desired patient outcomes.

  • Prepares surgical suites as required for specific procedures.

  • Cleans and prepares surgical suits between cases.

  • Gives appropriate pre-operative and post-operative instructions to patients and significant others.
  • Prepares preference cards for new physicians and/or procedures.
  • Utilizes ongoing assessment data and notifies physician/surgeon of changes in patient’s condition in a timely and appropriate manner.
  • Is flexible and available for an on-call schedule.

  • Maintain orderly condition of assigned work area.
  • Is knowledgeable of general hospital and department specific policies and procedures.

Education And/or Experience
  • Proficient oral and written communication
  • Completion of accredited Surgical Technician program
  • 1 year hospital surgical experience preferred.
  • Scrub Tech Certification preferred.
Certificates And Licenses
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) required or willing to obtain within 30 days of hire.
