Job summary

ICON Eyecare in Denver seeks a skilled Surgical Technologist to join our ambulatory surgery center, supporting ophthalmic procedures and ensuring a sterile, well-equipped operating room. You will assist surgeons, nurses, and anesthesia staff and help maintain instrument readiness and room turnover.

The role requires strong attention to detail and teamwork. CST and/or BLS are preferred; new grads are welcome, with English proficiency and good communication in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

  • Minimum High School diploma or equivalent.
  • CST certification preferred.
  • BLS certification.
  • 1 year experience as a surgical technologist preferred. New grads welcome.
  • Strong attention to detail, manual dexterity, and ability to work effectively in a fast-paced surgical environment.
  • Excellent communication, teamwork, and organizational skills.
  • Create and provide a positive, accountable, and inspired work environment.
  • Ability to read and communicate effectively in English. Additional languages preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare operating rooms for ophthalmic procedures, ensuring instruments, supplies, medications, and equipment are available and sterile.
  • Establish and maintain a sterile field using aseptic technique.
  • Assist surgeons, RNs, and anesthesia providers by passing instruments and supplies.
  • Prepare ophthalmic surgical equipment, including microscopes and phacoemulsification systems.
  • Perform counts of sponges, needles, and instruments per policy.
  • Assist with patient positioning, site preparation, and draping for comfort and safety.
  • Handle intraocular lenses, medications, specimens, and specialty supplies per protocol.
  • Clean, inspect, assemble, and prepare instruments for sterilization and care of microsurgical equipment.
  • Support efficient OR turnover and maintain a clean, safe environment.
  • Document surgical information as required by policy.
  • Adhere to infection control, sterilization, OSHA, and ASC standards.
  • Collaborate with team members to deliver quality patient care.
  • Participate in quality improvement and competency training.

Ensures the operating room is properly prepared, organized, and equipped for ophthalmic procedures. Prepares and maintains ophthalmic instruments, supplies, equipment, and surgical trays according to established standards and physician preferences. Assists with maintaining sterile technique throughout procedures and provides instruments and supplies to the surgical team as needed. Monitors PAR levels and ensures adequate availability of ophthalmic surgical supplies and medications. Assists with the cleaning, decontamination, sterilization, and proper handling of ophthalmic instruments and equipment. Supports efficient room turnover and maintains a clean, safe, and organized surgical environment. Participates in departmental staff meetings, quality improvement initiatives, and performance improvement activities.Essential Duties and Responsibilities· Prepare operating rooms for ophthalmic procedures, ensuring all instruments, supplies, medications, and equipment are available, sterile, and functioning properly.· Establish and maintain a sterile field throughout surgical procedures using strict aseptic technique.· Assist surgeons, registered nurses, and anesthesia providers during surgical procedures by anticipating needs and passing instruments and supplies.· Prepare and maintain ophthalmic surgical equipment, including operating microscopes, phacoemulsification systems, vitrectomy equipment, and laser accessories.· Perform sponge, needle, and instrument counts according to facility policy.· Assist with patient positioning, surgical site preparation, and draping while ensuring patient comfort and safety.· Handle intraocular lenses (IOLs), medications, specimens, and specialty supplies according to established protocols.· Clean, inspect, assemble, and prepare instruments for sterilization and ensure proper care of delicate microsurgical equipment.· Assist with efficient operating room turnover to maintain surgical schedules.· Monitor inventory levels of ophthalmic instruments, implants, and disposable supplies, notifying leadership of replenishment needs.· Accurately document surgical information as required by facility policy.· Adhere to infection prevention, sterilization, OSHA, AAAHC/Joint Commission, and ASC regulatory standards.· Collaborate with surgeons, nurses, anesthesia providers, and other team members to deliver exceptional patient care.· Participate in quality improvement activities, continuing education, and competency training.· Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA regulations.Qualifications· Minimum High School diploma or equivalent· Current Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) certification preferred.· Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.· 1 year experience as a surgical technologist preferred.
