Position Summary: Functions as a member of the surgical team performing assigned duties of the technologist in the scrub role. Applies knowledge of concepts necessary for maintaining the integrity of the sterile field. Serves the following populations: infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric.
Surgical Technician: Surgical Services
Location: Coldwater Regional Medical
Responsibilities:
- Demonstrate proficiency in proper scrub techniques and handling instruments, supplies, and equipment for assigned cases, following departmental policies and procedures.
- Utilize preference lists, anatomy and physiology knowledge, departmental policies, and patient age-related needs to prepare for and carry out case responsibilities.
- Maintain sterile field integrity by using aseptic techniques and observing the surgical team, addressing any breaks in sterile technique promptly.
- Collaborate with the circulating nurse for accurate sponge, instrument, and sharp counts according to departmental guidelines.
- Check daily schedules to ensure proper supplies and assist other personnel as needed.
- Participate in orientation of new employees and students, acting as a role model and resource.
- Maintain current certification and provide proof to the Service Coordinator.
- Serve as a liaison between co-workers and other departments, demonstrating good guest relations with physicians, patients, and staff.
- Understand departmental goals and work with team members to achieve them.
- Perform other duties as directed.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology or LPN program.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills; ability to use computer systems.
- Current, unencumbered LPN license if applicable.
- CPR certification.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior surgical experience preferred.
- Certification by the Association of Surgical Technologists (AST) or NCCT preferred.
Working Conditions:
- Ability to tolerate exposure to latex, blood, and bodily fluids.
- Physical ability to move around the hospital, lift objects, and work with tools and equipment.
