Job summary

Surgery Partners, Inc. is looking for a Surgical Technologist in Beverly Hills, CA. In this Per Diem role, you will assist in surgical operations, prepare and maintain medical equipment, and observe patients' vital signs. Candidates should have completed an accredited surgical program and hold relevant certifications.

Experience in ophthalmology is a plus. This position requires effective communication and teamwork skills, along with the ability to work flexible hours, including weekends.

Qualifications

• Must be certified to perform CPR with at least 1 year of clinical experience.
• Experience in ophthalmology preferred.
• Surgical Technologist certification required.

Responsibilities

• Assist in preparing the operating room and maintaining medical equipment.
• Observe patients' vital signs and assist the surgical team.
• Clean and restock the operating room post-surgery.

Supervision Received: Physician and/or Registered Nurse

Summary of Duties

Surgical technologists, also called scrubs and operating room technicians, assist in surgical operations under the supervision of surgeons, registered nurses, or other surgical personnel. They are members of operating room teams, which most commonly include surgeons, anesthesiologists, and circulating nurses.

Education and Experience Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited surgical technologist program.


• Must be certified to perform CPR with at least 1 year of clinical experience in a related field.


• Experience as a surgical technologist in ophthalmology is a plus.

Essential Functions

• Prepares and maintains medical equipment for surgical procedures.


• Assists in preparing the operating room by setting up surgical instruments and equipment, sterile drapes, and sterile solutions.


• Follows hospital regulations and industry procedures to tend to patients during pre‑operation procedures.


• Assembles both sterile and non‑sterile equipment, adjusts and checks it to ensure proper function.


• Transports patients to the operating room, helps position them on the operating table, and prepares the patient for surgery using aseptic technique.


• Observes patients’ vital signs, checks charts, and assists the surgical team with putting on sterile gowns and gloves.


• Passes instruments and other sterile supplies to surgeons and assistant surgeons.


• Holds retractors, cuts sutures, and helps count sponges, needles, supplies, and instruments; assists in preparing, caring for, and disposing of specimens taken for laboratory analysis and applying dressings.


• Operates sterilizers, lights, or suction machines, and helps operate diagnostic equipment.


• After an operation, helps transfer patients to the recovery room and cleans and restocks the operating room.


• Performs other duties as assigned.

Physical and Mental Demands

• Ability to be on your feet for long periods and lift or turn disabled patients.


• Requires sitting and standing associated with a normal office environment.


• Ability to concentrate for periods of up to four hours.


• Ability to communicate verbally both in person and on the telephone.


• Ability to use a computer keyboard and view a computer monitor.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Must demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate for the age of the patients in the center.


• Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development of the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s requirements relative to their age‑specific needs and provide the required care as described in the center’s policies and procedures.


• Demonstrates the knowledge and skills in the nursing process.


• Demonstrates the ability to utilize recognized channels of communication.


• Demonstrates the ability to maintain good interpersonal relationships with patients, co‑workers, and other health team members.

Environment and Working Conditions

Normal busy office environment with much telephone work. Occasional evening and/or weekend work.

Position Information

Position: Per Diem – Availability 2–3 days a week.

Preferred Qualifications

• Associates degree or higher.


• Technical or other training or higher.

Licenses and Certifications

• Surgical Technologist certification.


• Basic Life Support certification.
